Our Staff

Our staff is comprised of many experienced professionals. Don’s daughter, Noelle Boothby, serves as Sunburst’s Vice President. She completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Northern Arizona University, but after a few years working as a teacher, she returned to the landscaping industry she had grown up in. Her husband, Josh Boothby, also is involved in Sunburst. He worked in the field on a landscaping crew for years, but then pursued his passion and joined the Glendale Fire Department. Though most of his time is taken up as a fireman, Josh works as a design consultant for the Residential Division of Sunburst part-time.

Don’s nephew, Mark Gabbard, is the Residential Division Manager at Sunburst. He also pursued a career in education, but after earning a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University, he also returned to the family business. In addition to creating custom full landscape designs, Mark oversees all residential design consultants and operations. He also is in charge of job scheduling and resource management. His wife, Jenni, is the Marketing Director for Sunburst. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Auburn University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Mercer University. She left a position with a mission-based nonprofit to come onboard to help the family build the Sunburst brand.

Joe Matoskey, a long-time family friend, heads up the Commercial Artificial Turf Division and is the Sunburst representative of all Bison Innovative Products. Joe served as a Medic in the United States Army prior to beginning a respectable career in sport court industry. His experience and understanding of safety precautions and regulations has been invaluable to Sunburst’s commercial artificial grass partners.

Our full-time dedicated Design Consultant is Karlan Smith. Karlan became friends with Don through their church and got to know each other better as golf buddies. As the business of Sunburst continued to grow, Don knew that Karlan’s 40+ years’ experience in cabinet and houseware sales along with his business management skills would help Sunburst meet their customers’ needs. Karlan holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Northern Arizona University.

Completing the Sunburst sales team is Jeff Janssen. He works part-time with Sunburst as he is also a Fireman with the Glendale Fire Department. Jeff completed a Bachelor of Business Administration at Northern Arizona University. He was brought to the sales team through his personal friendship with Josh Boothby at the Fire Department.

The backbone of Sunburst is our Office Manager, Kathy Singleton. Kathy worked for a sod supplier where she met Don over 30 years ago. When she and her husband Bob owned their own landscaping company, they got to know each other better as colleagues and friends. From running the business operations of their business prior to its sale, Kathy learned the ins and outs of landscape contracting. She performs many different tasks for Sunburst including accounting, estimating, human resources and others. She graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education.
